Christian Education Committee

Introduction
The mission of the Christian Education Committee at First Presbyterian Church is to provide opportunities and experiences that will support and nurture the spiritual journey and growth of all persons from birth through adulthood.  Our programs include nursery, Church School (preschool – 5th grade) Youth Group classes and activities (grades 6-12) and Adult Education classes and programs on Sunday mornings and throughout the week.

Participation
The church school teachers meet monthly to review lessons and church activities.  The entire Children’s Christian Education Committee meets bimonthly on Sunday morning before worship with the church school teachers and staff.  An Adult Christian Education Committee also meets bimonthly to assess the needs and interests of members as we strive to offer quality lessons and activities.

The Jesus and Me Ministry provides a nursery service that is staffed by one adult volunteer and two paid nursery attendants on Sunday mornings.  Nursery care is also provided for many of our adult education studies that meet during the week such as MOBB, Celebrate the Vision and Women’s Bible Study.

Children and youth meet in the sanctuary and are dismissed from worship service after the Moment with Young Worshipers, for participation in their respective programs.  The youth also meet on Sunday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. for activities and community volunteering opportunities.  Summer activity trips, mission trips and work camp-community volunteer trips offer a variety of learning experiences for spiritual growth.

The Children and Youth Sunday service in June during worship is a highlight for presenting lessons learned, music and a culmination of the year’s educational growth.  Likewise the Children and Youth Christmas Eve Service is enjoyed by many, and always beautifully presented with Scripture and music.

Vacation Bible School is offered in the month of June, is an another important event.  We are one of five downtown churches that supports this program.  VBS is hosted at First Presbyterian Church.

The Church Library, located on the mid-level of the building, has excellent books available for children and adults.   A book rack is available in the Gathering Place on Sunday mornings.
