Worship Service

We are very proud of our history of strong and exceptional preaching and proclamation of God's Word for our contemporary lives. Texts of past sermons are available in our Recent Sermons. Adult education programs are held at 9:30 a.m.

Music is an important part of worship at First Presbyterian. The worship service includes the participation of the Adult Choir (and often instrumental ensembles from the Kalamazoo Symphony or Western Michigan University). Special Services are announced in The Presbyter and are held throughout the year and include everything from the joy of Children's Day to the solemn Tennebrae Service held on Good Friday.

Children in Worship

  • We believe that children are an important part of our community, and we encourage you to bring your children to worship services. Their presence grows out of our committment to incorporate children into the life and mission of our congretation and to nurture them into a growing relationship with God.
  • During the service, younger children are encouraged to attend "Children's Worship", an age-appropriate worship experience for children between four years and 4th grade that parallels the regular service.
  • Children start worship with their parents in the sanctuary, then are dismissed with their worship leaders following the 'Word with the Children'. They can be picked up after the service in the Children's Worship Center in the lower level of the church.
